Post-shock reversal

gap, crash, spike

After a single extreme day, such as a crash after a headline, a counter move often follows. Buying on the shock day itself, though, means catching a falling knife.

In the screenerDays with a move of ≥ 5% or ≥ 2.5 × ATR are detected. A signal comes 1–3 days later at the earliest, and only with confirmation (close above the prior day’s high or below its low). Expiry 10–15 days, strike about 2% in the money, score 3 at most. If the shock came right after earnings, it is capped at 2 (see PEAD).
